(1) John Gottman has determined that couples counseling can actually predict divorce if couples are in high conflict and have been for some time. Given this statistical analysis, I can see that many insurance companies would prefer to invest in individual counseling rather than couples counseling.
(2) Couples counseling is very challenging and difficult because of different personalities, and the level of conflict in the relationship and the willingness and ability - in the midst of conflict - to learn what is needed to make change that makes a difference.
(3) When I work with couples, I find that I can accomplish what I need to teach from a psychoeducational perspective in about 30-45 minutes and help the couple to see how to integrate into their week ahead. I provide my website to my clients to access between appointments with hours of free additional information to jumpstart your success
